The chair of Business Informatics at the University of Oldenburg hosted the close up meeting of the TEMPUS project MATRE. At the 31th of October 2016 the VLBA department received the project partners from Spain, Lithuania, Lebanon and Syria. The main objective was to conclude all projects activities through every aspect and to close the project. Apart from this matter, future cooperation possibilities were also discussed.
As part of the activities within WP4 (Training courses), a workshop was held at the faculty of Education at Jinan University, Saida, Lebanon, on Thursday, 20th of October 2016. Dr. Chadi Azmeh provided training on the importance of scientific research and first steps in writing and publishing a scientific paper in an international journal. The Workshop was attended by more than 10 master and undergraduate students.
University of Lebanon organized on 08- 09 of September 2016 the International Conference “Modernizing Academic Teaching and Research in Business and Economics” . The basic objective of the Conference to bring together researchers for a corporate discussion about the contemporary issues in research, academic teaching, and education in the context of globalization. This conference helded in parallel with the project steering committee and the quality control meeting activities.
As a part of WP6 (Establishment of the centers’ knowledge
resources)Training workshop on using Ebsco database was delivered by Mr. Ali Abdulah, the regional representative of Ebsco in the middle east on 20 th August 2016. He explained the main features of Ebsco e-library and academic staff has hands-on training on using Ebsco to download articles and reports. More than 10 academic staff from AIU and Damascus University
attended the workshop.
MATRE Research Support and Training Center at AIU Open day: 7th August 2016 As a part of WP 7 (dissemination and visibility), The president and vice presidents of AIU opened MATRE research support and training center at AIU and discovered the services the center will provide to students and academics. They also took a closer look on the equipment available at the center. More than 30 students and 15 academic staff from AIU, DA, and IUST
attended the Open day.

As a part of WP4 (Training courses), Dr. Alaa AlAzmeh from Arab International University conducted a workshop about “Project Management and different available baths to obtain PMP certificates” in cooperation with Mr. Mazen Haffar from Venture. He discussed the importance of project management with real case examples. They also explain different professional certificates in project management. More than 20 students
attended the workshop.

As a part of WP4 (Training courses) , Miss. Bayan Khalifa from Arab International University conducted a workshop about “How to build e-questionnaire” at MATRE research support and training center at AIU. She discussed the advantages of collecting primary data using Google doc. The workshop has hands-on training on building e-questionnaires. More than 10 students attended the workshop.

Mr. Ayham AlKawi, in coordination with Erasums Plus students association, conducted a workshop at the IUST about (Why studying in Europe and how can a student get an erasmus scholarship?). He discussed opportunities and challenges for students and gave students advises based on his personal experience. More than 20 students attended the workshop.
IUST organized a workshop for the occasion of inauguration of their Unit for development of scientific research at 9/5/2016. the program of the workshop was as follows:
– Welcome word by Dr. Sadiq Al-Nousirat (IUST)
– Dissemination of the MATRE project and a proposed plan for the Unit by Dr. Chadi Azmeh (IUST)
– Presentation on how to write a good proposal by Dr. Serene Dalati (AIU)
– Presentation on female entrepreneurial-ship by Dr. Victoria Khnouf (AIU)
– Presentation on research in Finance By Dr. Riad Abd Al-Raaouf (DU)
The workshop was attended by Dr. Fayasal Al-Abass (President of IUST) and Dr. Sharif Al-Ashkar (Vice president). The workshop was also attended by deans and several academics from IUST and AIU. The number of students attended the workshop was about 50 students.
Building on earlier coordination and visits, Prof. Dr. M. Maher Kabakibib, the president of AIU, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Syrian Investment ِAgency on Wednesday 27th of April 2016. The visit aims at building bonds with business and industry (WP.3) and insures the sustainability of MATRE project through a number of activities with the Agency including training and conducting economic and feasibility studies.
